Rob O'Dea has spent two decades building technology businesses that simplify complex industries. As co-founder of Hostelworld.com, he helped create the platform that became the world's leading hostel booking site—sold in 2009 for over $500 million. That experience taught him something important: the businesses that win are the ones that remove friction, not add it.

After Hostelworld, Rob built trading systems for global sports betting operators, developed social gaming platforms, and consulted on e-commerce strategy for brands scaling into new markets. By 2020, he'd seen the inside of enough warehouse operations to recognise a pattern. The front end of e-commerce had become seamless—one-click ordering, real-time tracking, next-day delivery promises. But behind those slick websites, the warehouses were chaos. Workers walking 15 kilometres a day. Pick errors eating into margins. Operations dependent on labour that was becoming impossible to find and expensive to keep.

The automation solutions that existed were either impossibly complex or impossibly expensive—or both. Systems designed for Amazon-scale operations were being force-fitted into mid-market warehouses, with predictably poor results. Rob saw an opportunity to build something different: automation that warehouse managers could understand in minutes, not months. Technology that worked with existing infrastructure instead of demanding a complete rebuild. A business model that converted crushing CapEx into manageable OpEx.
